    East China Normal University Confucius Institute Scholarship Professional Development Program for Ch


    For the purpose of deepening cultural exchanges between China and South Asian countries and promoting the localization of Chinese language teachers, Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) (hereinafter referred to as “Hanban”) launches the “Confucius Institute Scholarship: Professional Development for Chinese Language Teachers in South Asian Countries”.


    Programs


    1.“1+4”:One-academic-year Intensive Chinese Language Learning +Four-academic-year Education of Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL).


    Eligibility: applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens aged below 25 with a high school certificate and shall sign an agreement with Hanban.
Admission: autumn semester of 2017.
Funding duration: five academic years.
Funding details: recipients will be exempt from tuition and accommodation fees, and provided with a monthly living allowance of 2,500 RMB; a roundtrip flight of economic class will be provided every academic year, covering the shortest distance from the residing place of the recipient’s home country to the Chinese host university where he/she is studying;


    2. Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)


    Eligibility: applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens, aged below 25, and have a high school certificate or above; applicants shall score no less than 180 in HSK (level 3) and 60 in HSKK (intermediate level); applicants shall sign an agreement with Hanban.
Admission: autumn semester of 2017.
Funding duration: four academic years.
Funding details: students are exempt from tuition, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a monthly living allowance of 2,500 RMB; a round-trip flight of economic class will be provided every academic year, covering the shortest distance from the residing place of the student’s home country to the Chinese host university where he/she is studying;


    3. Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages(MTCSOL)


    Eligibility: applicants should be non-Chinese citizens, aged below 35, and have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; applicants shall score at least 180 in HSK (level 5) and 60 in HSKK (intermediate level); applicants shall sign an agreement with Hanban; preference will be given to applicant with a specific teaching post (agreement or certification by the institution he/she will teach in is required).
Admission: autumn semester of 2017.
Funding duration: two academic years.
Funding: students are exempt from tuition, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a monthly living allowance of 3,000 RMB; a round-trip flight of economic class shall be provided every academic year, covering the shortest distance from the residing place of the student’s home country to the Chinese host university where he/she is studying;


    4. Intensive Chinese Language Learning (One academic year or one semester)


    Eligibility: applicants should be non-Chinese citizens, and have not studied in China before.Applicants shall score at least 180 in HSK (level 3) and 60 in HSKK (elementary level).


    Admission: autumn semester of 2017.


    Funding duration: 5 months or 11 months


    Funding: students are exempt from tuition, accommodation fees on campus, and are provided with a monthly living allowance of 2,500 RMB;


    Application procedures


    Step 1:On-line Application


    (1)Register at http://cis.chinese.cn and fill in the application form online.


    (2) Save and upload the required documents. Click the SUBMIT to generate the application form, which should be downloaded and printed out.


    Notice:


    1. When you are applying for 1+4 program, please choose "undergraduates" and put 1+4 after your Chinese name. For example "王伟1+4”


    2. Please click "yes" for the question: Program of the Divission of teachers of Hanban?"



    Step 2:Send the documents in hard copies


    The applicants provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely. All of documents should be original and with a duplicate copy.


    1) Application Form for Confucius Institute Scholarship (filled in Chinese or English and generated by on-line application):


    2) Copy of passport


    3) Highest diploma (original or notarized photocopy): Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.


    4) Academic transcripts (original or notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.


    5) A study or research plan. All applicants are required to submit a study or research plan. It must be in Chinese or in English and no less than 800 words.


    6) Recommendation letters from recommending Institution


    7) Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant.) The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination as it is valid for only 6 months.


    8) HSK & HSKK (the Chinese Proficiency Test) Certificate.
